Ministry Information

Purpose

A sacramental program designed to help 11th – 12th grade students to prepare to receive the sacrament of Confirmation.  The program is further designed to help students to establish and/or enhance a personal relationship with Christ and see their Catholic Faith as essential to this relationship.

Sacramental preparation for Confirmation is a two-year process.  Candidates for Confirmation must have a minimum of 1 year attendance in Youth Ministry prior to Confirmation Preparation in their junior year.  During the high school junior year, special Confirmation classes are held concurrent with the normal Sunday evening Youth Ministry timetable.  In addition, there are sponsor-candidate meetings approximately once per month.  There is a required retreat, usually held early in the spring semester of the junior year.

Final preparations occur early in the senior year, leading to receiving Confirmation in October.  The confirmed are asked to assume ministerial leadership roles in the Youth Ministry program, as a part of living out their new role as adults in the church. They are led through an identification of gifts and talents and a commitment to utilize these gifts in everyday life.

Youth interested in being Confirmed as a high school senior need to register for Confirmation classes as they begin their junior year.

Ministry Opportunities

Adult volunteers are needed to assist the Confirmation Preparation core team.
Adults from the parish are also encouraged to be willing to serve as Confirmation sponsors for our candidates.
